The article series “Who Makes Up VUMZ Group” offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the company, where people— their experiences, enthusiasm, and commitment—play a key role. After interviews with Robert Procházka, Milan Slašťan, and Martin Procházka, today we continue with the fourth installment, where we introduce the Head of Construction Ing. Vladimír Haberman.
This article takes us into the world of technical challenges, decision-making under pressure, and the constant search for balance between process and outcome. We’ll read about his professional journey, which began during his studies, lessons learned from mistakes, and how he tries to balance work life with family and hobbies.
1. Could you introduce yourself and describe your role at VUMZ Group? I serve as the Head of Construction at VUMZ Group. 2. What brought you to VUMZ Group, and what was your journey like before joining the company? I’ve been involved in mechanical engineering since my studies. After graduation, I worked in a position where, in addition to designing, I was also responsible for quality. However, I didn’t feel fully aligned with that area. That’s why I decided to respond to an offer from the then relatively young company VUMZ. I’m grateful for the opportunity I received and the fact that I’m still working here today. 3. What are your main responsibilities within your team or your work? For new projects, I’m primarily responsible for preparing complete technical documentation for production, technology, procurement, and company management. It’s also essential to effectively distribute tasks among colleagues in construction to meet set deadlines. In the pre-production stage, my role involves designing the right solution based on customer input and communicating with them. The output includes technical parameters, descriptions, and so on. 4. Which is more important to you— the process or the result? Why? I think both are important. A quality process is the foundation for achieving good results. I strive to find a balance between these two aspects. 5. Mistakes are a part of life, including professional life. What has been your biggest professional mistake, and what did you learn from it? In my job, decisions need to be made continuously, often under time pressure. Of course, I’ve made both small and larger mistakes throughout my career. However, I’ve always tried to learn from them and avoid repeating them. Early in my career, I chose a solution that later turned out to be less suitable for the specific customer. However, thanks to collaboration with my colleagues, we were able to resolve the situation successfully. This experience taught me to carefully consider all aspects and look for more comprehensive solutions. 6. If you could change careers and do anything, regardless of whether it’s realistic or not, what would it be? I’d probably choose a career as a professional athlete.
7. How do you prefer to spend your free time?
I prefer spending my free time with my family. Additionally, I enjoy sports and spending time with friends, although I don’t have much time for that lately.
8. Do you have any hobbies or interests that your colleagues might not know about?
Currently, my biggest hobby is my sons, with whom I try to spend as much time as possible.
9. What’s your ideal 10-day summer vacation? Where would you go, with whom, and why?
I try to spend my vacation actively. It would definitely be a combination of relaxation and discovering new places.
10. What advice would you give to your younger self, if you had the chance?
Be more determined and not be afraid.
